Pantone’s 2017 Spring Colors

From the deep rich colors of 2015 to the light ethereal palette of 2016, this spring Pantone is going vibrant, colorful and bright. These vivid hues remind me of a colorful array of flowers blooming in the spring like tulips and daffodils, the blue of a bright sunny sky, and the crisp greens of the grass and the leaves of a tree. These are the top 10 colors for spring 2017 which Pantone debuted during New York Fashion week while the designers were showing their spring 2017 collections. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone believed these more playful colors sparked a new sense of whimsey in the designers. She noted, “One of the things that we saw this year, was a renewed sense of imagination in which color was appearing in a context that was different than the traditional.”

Which Will Be the Color of the Year
What struck me this year where some of the similarity of colors. There are two green, three blues, a soft and bold pink, a neutral, and two very warm invigorating colors yellow and a blood orange. According to Pantone’s report, they seem to be favoring Niagara, which they are describing as a “denim-like blue” as easy and relaxing a pair of denim the color represents. There’s a good chance that this could indeed be their choice color of the year.

For the last three years, the color of the year has been Rose Quartz, Marsala, and Orchid all of which are some variation of a similar color palette. Even though Serenity (a pale baby blue) shared the color of the year title with Rose Quartz, we haven’t really seen a vibrant blue as color of the year since 2009. Blue Iris was the chosen shade in 2009 but it was more blue-violet than true blue. I’m guessing they will go bold with Lapis Blue. They’ll announce in December so let’s see if I’m right?!
