The #Fierce50

I have the exciting honor of being one of the original 50 women of the #Fierce50 Revolution. We are a collective of women over 50 brought together by the incredibly beautiful (inside and out) Catherine Grace O’Connell. As a women over 50, when I started blogging I felt isolated because the majority of my blogging sisters where in their 20s and 30s. It was this isolation that prompted me to add my voice and perspective as a educated (I hold a JD and PhD), curvy, 50+ woman. AARP’s CEO Jo Ann Jenkins wrote a book called Disrupt Aging and one thing that is true about the #Fierce50 collective is as women from all walks of life, we are indeed #agedisruptors.

The #Fierce50 Weekend was a celebration of the life, achievements, challenges, and fortitude of women who share their hearts, experiences, and passion with the world. The wisdom and lived experiences shared in our circle of community was powerful and moving. I was also struck by the impact each of us have on the lives of countless women who read, follow, and are inspired by our commitment to share moments of our lives with the world. Can you tell it was a powerful weekend for me?

While meeting my #Fierce50 sisters in person for the first time was indeed the highlight of the event, the weekend was even sweeter because my daughter joined me for the event. It’s important to me to expose my daughter to strong, powerful women rising above their fears and accomplishing their dreams. I want her to have a vision for what’s possible for her in this world and not feel restricted by any perceived limitations she might have or the world may try to impose upon her.

The Cat & Kaehler Launch Party

Cat & Kaehler LA Talk Radio Show Hosts

The fierce and fabulous weekend started off Friday night in Redondo Beach on the rooftop of  The Redondo Beach Hotel at the Cat & Kaehler Launch Party. As a precursor to the event I was able to shoot a commercial sponsored by Madison Reed. In my experience they are an innovative and conscience driven hair care company with amazing products. They also surprised us some extra goodies in our swag bags for the event.

And speaking of swag bags! We received fun sequined beaded statement tote bags from Chico’s loaded with incredible gifts and giveaways.  In addition to the products received from Madison Reed, we had skincare by Dermalogica, bracelets by LYLO, belts by Manna Dabholkar, cooling towels by Arctic Cool, and so much more.

Together with the DJ, courtesy of VOX DJ’s, I led the group in my favorite line dance Wobble. True to our fearless spirit, the women hit the floor mastering the dance proving women in their 50s and 60s command the dance floor! 😉

The food provided for the evening was amazing and my daughter’s favorite was the truffle mac and cheese with bacon. I mean really…what’s not good with cheese and bacon!! I was truly impressed by all of the variety of food options provided by The Rockefeller Gastropub. The food, drinks, fellowship, and fun truly made this kick-off event a night to remember.

A Visit to French Kande

The next morning we were able to meet the owner and creator of the unique, creative, popular, and french inspired jewelry line French Kande. Kande Hall shared her story of starting this distinctive jewelry line at 50 and with nothing more than a dream and vision to create something wonderful and new. Out of her love of vintage pieces that to some would be considered meaningless and trivial, Kande designs pieces of jewelry that make women feel they’re wearing a piece of history. Located in a quaint Parisian inspired studio in Los Angeles, Kande’s studio was the perfect place for our #Fierce50 gathering.

It was such a beautiful brunch filled with amazing french inspired food, the sharing of powerful stories of rediscovery, and the receipt of our own custom French Kande bracelets. Made of black jasper paired with silver and brass icons of Paris, I will forever treasure this precious gift and memento of the occasion.

Hermosa Beach Photo Shoot

After a quick change we headed back out to a new location, Hermosa Beach Pier. As bloggers of course we had to capture our inaugural event on camera. In addition to a drone flying around taking aerial shots of our collective, we were able to take several still shoots of our 4th of July inspired ensembles. You may be familiar with Hermosa Beach Pier as it made an appearance in the Academy Award nominated LaLa Land. Chico’s continued to offer their love and support of the #Fierce50 by supplying us with blue trimmed hats scripted with the statement Fun in the Sun.

Chico’s Shopping Trip

What better way to end an amazing event than at Chico’s, the store that has supported the #Fierce50 from the beginning. Chico’s was the first company to extend a hand of support by sending each of us special friendship bracelets to honor our sisterhood.

We ventured to Santa Monica to the attend a special brunch hosted by the beautiful and helpful staff at the Chico’s on Montana. We enjoyed 30% off on all of our purchases and had the store to ourselves a full hour before they opened. Shannon Gunderson, the store manager, was gracious and kind securing my belief that Chico’s is the place to shop not just for #Fierce50, but every woman.

What’s Coming Next for the #Fierce50

Not one to let grass grow under our feet, we’ll be launching another campaign partnering with Millennial bloggers. I’m so excited about this new project. Even with the gap in age and experience (particularly from a technological perspective), by bridging the divide we can uplift the entire sisterhood of women.
